Just minutes after posting a story about knockoff “Looking for a Girlfriend” fliers, we stepped outside to discover that Dan Perino, the OG, is back on the scene, having posted the above flier today. That’s right, he’s looking for funds to make a documentary about what he says are now 67 dates and counting.
Oh, and producers? He’s open to a reality show as well.
Perino tells us he’s also toying with the idea of raising money for a “major motion picture” on Kickstarter.
So what kind of scenes would be in the trailer? Well, Perino recalls the time someone faking an Indian accent called to seduce him and spent 10 minutes begging him to come over – only to hang up when Perino told him, “I’m hung like a Coke can.”
Perino says he’s gotten a lot of calls and texts from men, actually – and about 40 cock shots. “I always text them back and say, ‘What are you doing that for? I’m looking for a girlfriend,’” Perino says. “I’m very polite about it because I don’t want them to go rip down all my fliers.”
Lucky for him, that isn’t the only type of attention Perino is getting. Though he has yet to meet “the one” and has been stood up uptown enough times to insist that dates meet below 14th Street, near his home in the East Village, he claims that about 10 times a day women recognize him while he’s fliering and stop to take photos with him. Some of them have even asked him out and offered to pay (Perino limits himself to coffee dates unless the women are treating).
“I just went out to get a cup of coffee and had to have a 20-minute conversation with a fan,” Perino said.
As for those parody fliers, he tells us, “I don’t really care about the copycats. They’re not me – I’ve already monopolized all the newspapers and CNBC, multimedia, I’m even overseas on BBC, I was in Africa in some of the newspapers.”
Perino is hoping to parlay that notoriety into funding for the documentary (“I’m thinking about trying to get on a nighttime show to ask for funds”), but he says it’s a double-edged sword as far as his dating life goes. “The problem is there’s been a little bit of a backlash because girls get too nervous after they see my Facebook or webpage – I’m all over the place on Instagram or whatever that’s called, and so they get a little nervous.”
Just wait till he’s a major movie star.
