A massive center for expositions will open in Greenpoint this October as part of the Greenpoint Terminal Market, an industrial complex that is still reinventing itself after a mysterious ten-alarm fire engulfed several buildings in 2006.

The Brooklyn Expo Center, at 79 Franklin Street, will include not only exhibition spaces but also offices, meeting rooms, storage space, a cafeteria, banquet seating for 2,200 people, and parking. The center is a project of Joshua Guttman, a developer with properties across Brooklyn, who bought the Greenpoint Terminal Market in 2001.

Yuri Zuker, who works for Guttman and is overseeing the project, said they saw a need for the center because “from Manhattan out to Brooklyn there is not a big open space on the ground floor that you can conduct expos at the moment.” The space will also welcome conferences, weddings and product launches, according to its website.
