Speaking of Kurt Cobain, one of his favorite bands, The Jesus Lizard, is releasing a coffee table book, and the band’s members — David Yow, David Wm. Sims, and Mac McNeilly — are showing it off at Word bookstore in Greenpoint next month.
The book — packed with contributions from the band members as well as folks like Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, New Yorker critic Sasha Frere-Jones, Minutemen bassist Mike Watt, and more — is as heavy as one of the band’s skull-splitting riffs, weighing in at about three pounds. Says Gownus-based publisher Akashic Books: “Included are many Polaroids by David Wm. Sims, a delicious recipe by David Yow, a concise list of every show the Jesus Lizard played, and writings by two producers who recorded the band—Steve Albini and Andy Gill.”
There’s also artwork — presumably by Yow, who showed his work at Fuse Gallery a couple of years ago. But if you’re really a fan of the frontman/wildman’s art, you may want to save your money for his book of cat illustrations, out in August. (Not. A joke.)
