After setting up a pop-up in our pop-up last month, Eric Ho and his modular elves at Made in Lower East Side have launched a 7-week project showcasing the different ways their Storefront Transformer can rock the world of an underused retail space.

With their Kickstarter windfall, miLES will be moving its Transformer (which neatly bundles up into a 6×6 cube for easy transport) around the Lower East Side and hosting events through December. Last week they turned 178 Delancey Street into a museum showcasing comic book legend Jack Kirby’s creations. This week, they welcomed Blood, Sweat and Fears, a “live magazine” that Chelsea Campbell launched in London.

For the live magazine — open till 7 p.m. tonight and from noon to 7 p.m. tomorrow, at 178 Delancey — the sections of a magazine were brought to life in the form of installations by local artists Ina Jang, Jai Lennard, Nate Graham, Dan Gould and Adam Harvey. Think “anti-drone” clothing in the technology section and a rolodex loaded with business cards from Las Vegas escort services in the classifieds.

Next week miLES will team up with Brooklyn Brainery and take over Pushcart Coffee at 221 East Broadway, offering a range of evening classes in block-printing, New York history, soap-felting and public speaking. Week four of the project will see miLES collaborate with the Space at Tompkins to provide a dining space (at 75 East 4th Street) for a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless.

Weeks five through seven, the miLES team will reconfigure the layout of a storefront each week to welcome a crafting and creation workspace by Kollabora and Hsing Wei, a retail space by TYTHEdesign focused on sustainably produced products, and Featherbed Lane, a one-of-a-kind deli experience presented by Ghetto Gastro.
