Last month Captured Tracks turned five with a weekend of shows and now everyone’s doing it! Another one of our fave Greenpoint indie labels, Mexican Summer, is celebrating the big fiver with a two-day festival in Red Hook — and a hardcover book with a 10″ EP.

The live shows, on October 11 and 12 at the Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation, will feature Mexican Summer performers like Lansing Dreiden and Ariel Pink (whose recent collaboration you read about in these pages), Tamaryn, The Fresh & Onlys, Spiritualized, No Joy, and more; plus Connan Mockasin and Linda Perhacs will play their first NYC shows. Prime Meats, Frankies Spuntino 457 and Brooklyn Brewery will be doing the food and bevies, and CO-OP 87 will hawk used vinyl and Mexican Summer releases.

Coffee table alert: the label is also releasing Mexican Summer: Five Years, a limited-edition tome featuring art, photos and writing from and about Mexican Summer artists, packaged with a 10″ record of collaborations between Spiritualized, Soldiers of Fortune and Neil Hagerty; Jorge Elbrecht and Ariel Pink; Autre Ne Veut and Fennesz; and so on and so forth.

For tickets, hit up Mexican Summer’s webpage.

Oct. 11 (doors 7 p.m.; $35 advance, $40 day of) and Oct. 12 (doors 3 p.m.; $35 advance, $40 day of); two-day pass $50 until Sept. 26th, $60 after. Transportation from Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg avail. via Rockabus, with departures from Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg.
