Dimes is basically taking over the Division/Ludlow/Orchard-and-Canal intersection in the LES, but we doubt the neighbors much mind. After all, the cafe with health-concious fare was developed by locals for locals; it’s been a neighborhood favorite for takeout ever since it opened at at 149 Division Street in 2013, then became a popular sit-down spot after moving to a bigger space across the street earlier this year, and now it has opened Dimes Deli in the original location, to accommodate the larger restaurant’s overflow. To make it a true one-stop shop, the owners recently announced that within a few weeks they’ll be opening Dimes Market in the former bus stop next door to the deli.

The small deli space is ideal for grabbing breakfast or midday takeout but also has a few seats if you’re not in a rush to get back to the office your coworking space. Dimes Deli cook Gary Noack said the most popular items at the deli are the soba noodles, acai bowls and, of course, the universally loved egg breakfast sandwich, which he said the deli sells up to 60 of each day. He described the food as contemporary with a fun, lighthearted flair.

Sophie Helsby said that she and her co-owners, Sabrina De Sousa and Alissa Wagner, all either live in the neighborhood or have resided there recently. “I think that all of us felt like there wasn’t a place to get high quality, fresh foods,” she said. The market will have organic produce, cuts of meat, pasta, snacks, and even Dimes’ own line of organic lip balm and salt scrubs. “They can get it all in one place, and it’s easy and good quality,” Helsby said. “And if you want you can pop in next-door and get something to go, like a rotisserie chicken.” She said the market’s storefront just needs a little facelift and should be open by late October or early November.
