There’s more upheaval on the East Village’s Curry Row, where Banjara and Brick Lane Curry House moved away in recent years. Earlier today, workers were spotted moving fixtures out of Mitali East, the Indian restaurant that, having been open since 1973, was the oldest existing eatery still on East 6th Street, between Second and First Avenues. A sign on the door reads, “We lost our lease” and directs customers to sister spot Haveli.

A few doors down, Jewel of India has closed at 324 East 6th Street less than a year after opening. You might call this a cursed space, since a Japanese restaurant and a Szechuan place closed there just as quickly. But a sign inside indicates that a Korean restaurant by the name of K’ook will soon be serving lunch, dinner, tea, soju and beer there. The new spot’s Facebook page says it’s opening at the end of the month. A website for the “casual Korean restaurant… with a modern touch” includes a menu featuring fried stuffed hot peppers, an “Army base stew” made with kimchi and ham, “corny corn corn” (grilled corn topped with cheese sauce) and the Korean-style Scotch egg shown above. This is definitely drinking food, so there’ll also be tea-and-soju cocktails, champagne, wine and beer.

Update: Liquor license documents indicate that K’ook is owned by Felicia Park, co-owner of the bygone St. Marks location of Han Joo.
