Forget Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, this is the only way for your culturally savvy moppet to learn the alphabet.
In Brooklyn ABC: A Scrapbook of Everyone’s Favorite Borough, by Brooklyn-based graphic designer Krzysztof Poluchowicz, the letter “A” stands for the New York Aquarium, home to the black-footed penguin that makes its nest out of its own hardened poop. Talk about recycling! And, B? Well, we betcha didn’t know that the city is home to 2,027 bridges.
The best letter, hands down, would have to be H, which — wait for it — is for Hipsters. You know, the “one species of person that has become a pop-culture phenomenon” — the one with “a liking for vintage or thrift-store fashion and ironic looks like old-fashioned eyeglasses or lots of facial hair”? Don’t ever take candy from them, kids — even if it’s a Mast Brothers chocolate bar.
Seriously, though: Poluchowicz, the in-house designer for powerHouse Books (whose imprint, POW!, publishes Brooklyn ABC in April), is a borough whisperer who’s got his alphabet on fleek. He’s bound to make your coolhunting tot fall in love with all things farmers’ market and quirky mustaches.
