The Williamsburg retail scene is starting to feel a lot like a game of musical chairs — salon chairs, in the case of the latest switcheroo. Commune Salon & Gift, which opened on Grand Street back in 2004, is leaving its home of over a decade and moving a couple blocks over. It closed earlier this week and will reopen at 185 Roebling Street on Saturday.
A sign on the window promises that stylist Aki Serita’s salon will “continue to offer the same service,” meaning a range of hair care options as well as Japanese-inflected jewelry, stationary, and other gifts.
The comes on the heels of many other recent moves within Williamsburg and Greenpoint: just to name a few off the top of our head, Lavai Maria, Academy Annex, Breakin Boundries, Flying Squirrel, San Loco, La Nonna, Beacon’s Closet, Van Leeuwen and By Robert James and others have all recently relocated within Williamsburg and Greenpoint, and Wild Ginger is next.
