Rostarr, the artist who did a mural for our pop-up newsroom a little over a year ago, has taken things to a whole new level — the rooftop level of The Standard, High Line, to be exact. On Friday, friends of Romon Kimin gathered in the hotel’s gift shop to raise their champagne glasses at his epic new work covering the ground of Le Bain, the hotel’s 18th-floor lounge.

Among those toasting were Erik Foss of Lit (shown with his back turned, speaking to Rostarr in the photo above), Carlo McCormick of Paper, and Markus Marty of The Standard, who produced the rad time-lapse video you can see here.

Rostarr told us it took him three days to lay down his signature calligraphic motif in the blistering cold.

Friday’s party was the second celebration of his work in as many days; he also debuted a mural at the new Williamsburg location of Rudy’s Barbershop, in the 125-year-old bank building at 33 Grand Street. That and our Newsroom installation pretty much makes Ro the mayor of Grand Street, we told him. “It’s a takeover!” he laughed.

Okay, maybe not, but it was definitely a takeover of The Standard’s gift shop Friday, as hats, small canvases, and totes featuring the artist’s black-and-white designs graced the shelves.

Still another painting covered the window.

If you’re in the mood for more time-lapse, here’s the video of Ro doing he’s thing at our Newsroom last year.
