At New York’s Select Fair back in May, we were wowed Bushwick artist David Hollier, who composes portraits of everyone from Kurt Cobain to JFK using quotes from their lyrics, speeches, and writing. If you thought his Ziggy Stardust made from typewriter strokes was cool, then hang onto yourself and peep his latest work on the window of lit-luvin’ Williamsburg restaurant Biblio.
After smacking Hunter S. Thompson on the wall of Brooklyn Ale House, he’s now created a bust of the Bard using the “all the world’s a stage” monologue from As You Like It. With its mention of puking babies, whining schoolboys and bearded types, this speech about the seven stages of life is clearly a commentary on Williamsburg gentrification. Or maybe Biblio just chose the most famous writer’s most famous passage, who knows. Either way, it’s the most inspired visualization of the Bard’s words we’ve seen since The Public’s “Shakespeare Machine.”
