Ducktails
A heavy dose of Ariel Pink and a hint of bubblegum Chillwave are definitely in the mix for Ducktails. All in all Mondanile’s hazy slacker pop is very LA (um, by way of New Jersey though). Last year, Pitchfork called out Matthew Mondanile (also of the band Real Estate) for being lazy when it comes to his side project, Ducktails, after the release of The Flower Lane. The reviewer then went on to praise the album for being “beautiful,” among other things.
But Mondanile said “take that” to this man of words, and dropped another EP, Wish Hotel, later that year. It’s been about a year since, and we’ve heard zero peeps from Ducktails about a new release. But catch them this Thursday at Baby’s All Right, along with The Stevens, a pleasant pop band from Australia, and Limited, which according to the venue “plays a brand of dream pop that’s heavy on the pop.” K. Baby’s All Right in Williamsburg, Thursday September 11th @ 8:30 pm, tickets $12
And if you’re down to fight your way through a thicket of strollers to venture south this weekend, Ducktails is playing another show this Saturday at Greenwood Park in South Slope as part of Noisey’s Bonfire Sessions. That show is not only free as hell, so long as you RSVP, but it also features Atlas Sound (Bradford Cox, the dude from Deerhunter’s solo project) and Mas Ysa. Greenwood Park in South Slope, Saturday September 13th @ 5 pm, tickets free with RSVP

Shannon and the Clams
West coast garage trio led by Shannon Shaw flanked by her two clams are playing a bunch of shows this week in Brooklyn. They rarely seem to make it over here, so take advantage of your chance to see some fun time garage pop. And it sounds like they’re super excited to see you as well. Shannon and The Clams wrote on their band website that they “can’t wait to lounge around the big greasy creepy apple for a few days.” Union Pool in Williamsburg, Tuesday September 9th @ 8 pm, Pre-sale tickets are sold out, but a few will be available at the door for $14. Also playing at Death By Audio in Williamsburg, Thursday September 11th @ 8pm, tickets $13.50. Catch them at Palisades in Bushwick, Friday September 12th, tickets $12 advanced, $14 at the door
Jessie Boykins III

Glasslands in Williamsburg, Tuesday September 9th @ 8:30 pm, tickets, $15
Larry and the Babes
