First Grand Billiards & Cafe closes, then Soho Billiards becomes a CVS, and now this: after two decades, the no-frills pool hall on McGuinness Boulevard is shuttering.
Risque — which inexplicably has the monicker of a strip club but is better known to neighborhood old-timers by its previous name, La Cue — is having a “going out of business” sale. According to a sign on the window, the liquidation starts Sept. 8, and “everything is for sale.” If you’re in the market for a not-so-gently used ping-pong table or a jukebox that’s apparently stocked with everything from metal to Beethoven, this is your chance.
Though Risque is located on the Hipster Highway (lol) it “may be the most representative place of Brooklyn residents B.H. (Before Hipster),” according to one fan on Yelp, where reviews of the aging, oft empty establishment and its Polish, Italian, Hispanic and Hasidic clientele are most definitely mixed.
It’s uncertain when exactly the pool hall will close, if it hasn’t already; calls to the place went unanswered today.
