Cassandra Jenkins describes her musical genre as “ghost cowboy,” so it’s no surprise her song “Rabbit” incorporates themes from the Wallace Stevens poem “A Rabbit as King of the Ghosts.”

“I think there’s definitely a ghostly nature to things. And there’s definitely a country influence in there,” she says of her music, no doubt referring to her boyfriend Sam Owens’s subtle guitar slides.

Jenkins and Owens co-wrote “Rabbit” and recorded it in the living room of her childhood home, which served as the location for this Play Room session (and has also hosted intimate performances by Bela Fleck and the Punch Brothers). You can hear an encore this evening at Spike Hill in Williamsburg. Jenkins plays a set at 7 p.m., and then, on Sunday at 9 p.m., accompanies Eleanor Friedberger at Brooklyn Bowl.
