Gallery Bar.
Last month we reported that Max Fish was planning to take over the Gallery Bar space at 120 Orchard Street. Ulli Rimkus, the bar’s owner, has now announced on Facebook that it got the support of Community Board 3′s liquor licensing committee at a meeting last night. Among the supporters who showed up were designer Lindsey Thornburg and Paper publisher David Hershkovits. Here’s the announcement.

The full board still needs to second the committee’s vote and of course the final word belongs to the State Liquor Authority, but the Fish’s supporters are pretty jubilant about the news.
Of course, there are always haters. Last week Bowery Boogie published an op-ed that opined that the plans to resurrect the legendary art bar “reek of desperation. It cannot be recreated, and raising it from the dead in a community suffering the blight of alcohol saturation is unconscionable.”
