After an eight-month intermission, reRun Theater reopens tomorrow night.

Located inside reBar gastropub, reRun debuted in July 2009 as Dumbo’s take on a drive-in (more duck fat popcorn, less exhaust fumes). The audience watches a 12-foot screen from 47 minivan seats from a Staten Island junkyard. Open to a 21-and-over crowd, reRun sells draft beer, wine, liquor, and cinema-themed cocktails. Drinks start at $5, and each person’s first drink is half-price.

For returning customers, reRun will look exactly the same as before — the only change involves the films that are shown. Jason Stevens, reBar’s president, said that the theater previously received all its movies from IFC, with the agreement that reRun air each one for at least a week so that the films were eligible to be reviewed by the Times. “If it’s not a popular film, you’re stuck with it for a week,” Stevens said.

Now the theater will do some runs with IFC, but focus more on one-off nights devoted to B movies. “The movies tend to be of the sort that attract a more dedicated crowd,” Stevens said. First up for reRun’s new schedule is Boo: A Horror Film Series, with Wednesday-night offerings for the next five weeks. Then, from April 18 to 24, reRun will host the first New York run of Jonathan Rossetti’s film Home, James, which was funded by a $50,000 Kickstarter campaign.

When reBar isn’t hosting one of its 150 weddings per year, Stevens said reRun will also broadcast sporting events, such as NCAA basketball games and this summer’s World Cup tournament.
